Whether going solo, traveling with a partner, or celebrating galentine’s with your mates, the Whitsundays is the perfect spot for a destination Valentine’s Day.
HEADS UP! The Whitsundays are expensive! Between accommodation, tours, and activities your valentine’s in paradise will not be cheap but it will be memorable. Below I will share a bit of my experience along with some other popular options and resources.
NOTE: The surrounding waters of the Whitsunday Islands have both deadly Jellyfish and Sharks. Plenty of people still swim at the beaches but definitely keep up with local animal updates.
* * * Hamilton Island * * *
I spent my time in the Whitsundays on Hamilton Island. The most popular Islands are Hamilton Island, Hayman Island, and Daydream Island. There are no hostels on the islands, so if you are seeking budget accommodation you will need to stay in the coastal city of Airlie Beach.
Hamilton Island has tons to offer, from mini golf to paddle board rentals to gorgeous hikes. You can stay on the island in one of the various resorts or simply ferry to the island from the Port of Airlie for $60 AUD one way.
For a romantic night out, grab some dinner at Coca Chu or Romano’s restaurants or opt for a delicious pizza from the Pizzeria and enjoy sunset on the beach.

My Valentine’s Experiences:
Rent a dingy for the day for $269 AUD or a catamaran for $69 AUD per hour. The catamarans can only sail around the Catseye Beach area while the dingies can be taken island hopping!
Enjoy a romantic sunset cruise! These can be taken from any island in the area and from Airlie Beach. The one we did was on a giant catamaran with unlimited drinks.

The Whitsundays run right along the Great Barrier Reef so splurge a bit for a snorkel tour! You can head all the way out to the outer reef or visit some inner reefs along with the famous Whitehaven Beach depending on the tour.
